On June 16, 2020, a young Ghanaian Muslim lady, Zainab Alhassan, was disqualified from the audition of TV3's Ghana's Most Beautiful beauty pageant.
According to a Facebook post she shared, Zainab was impressed by the judges during the first part of the audition, showcasing her talent and oratory skills.
However, she was disqualified after she told the judges that she would not remove her hijab during the reality show, citing that it was a requirement in her traditional Muslim home.
"Just a few days ago I decided to try my luck on one of the most popular reality TV shows in Ghana," Zainab narrated. "Ghana's Most Beautiful, I know it is a good opportunity for anyone who wanted to make an impact in their community…"
She further stated that the judges asked her questions regarding her choice of clothes, including if she bathed in her hijab when she refused to remove it.
Zainab believes she has been discriminated against based on her religious affiliation.
She has since spoken out about her experience, calling for an end to such discriminatory practices.
