Manchester City's Premier League season resumed on Wednesday with a special twist - the team will wear new shirts to promote a COVID-19 relief fund.
The shirts feature a 'Cityzens Giving for Recovery' campaign logo, replacing the usual branding of Etihad Airways, which has donated the space to kickstart the initiative.
City Football Group, the parent company of Manchester City, has already donated almost 1 million pounds ($1.3 million) to the global COVID-19 emergency response.
The group aims to match this figure through its new initiative, which will raise funds through its clubs, staff, players, coaches, and fans, as well as commercial partners.
The campaign will focus on supporting nine recovery-linked projects near each of its clubs.
According to Ferran Soriano, chief executive of City Football Group, 'front line workers around the world have heroically responded to the immediate threat of COVID-19.'
