46 Orphans in Mombasa County Cry for Help Amid COVID-19 Pandemic ¶
Published on June 16, 2020
Neema Children Centre, a rescue centre in Jomvu sub-county, Mombasa County, is appealing to well-wishers to help them with food and clothes donations as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the lives of 46 orphans in their care.
The centre has been neglected by the Mombasa county government during the pandemic, leaving the orphans to suffer. According to Maria, the orphan's godmother, the children are being forced to sleep hungry and wear their clothes for days since they do not have others to change.
"Many are the times we have slept hungry due to insufficient food. Sometimes I make black tea for the children at night so that they can at least sleep," Maria said.
The orphans are forced to have only one meal a day, which is lunchtime only, and they lack enough clothes to change. The centre also lacks clean water, exercise books, stationaries, and a security wall to safeguard their adopted home.
The orphans are pleading with Kenyans to come to their rescue and make a conducive environment for them. They welcome guests with heartwarming songs and warm hugs.
