On June 16, 2020, the Kenyan government extended restaurant hours to 7:30 pm, a two-hour and thirty-minute extension from the previous limit of 5 pm.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe made the announcement, citing the need for a full day's work schedule.
The Pubs, Entertainment and Restaurants Association of Kenya (PERAK) had requested an extension of four hours to 8 pm, but the government settled on 7:30 pm.
According to CS Kagwe, restaurants must still adhere to the laid-down protocols by the Ministry of Health, and public health officials are expected to ensure compliance.
