On June 16, 2020, Nyali MP Mohamed Ali took a significant step in the Kenyan parliament by serving the clerk of the national assembly with a notice to table a motion of impeachment against Transport CS James Macharia.

The motion, backed by 90 MPs, is grounded on the CS's alleged violation of some provisions in the Constitution, as well as his alleged incompetence in formulating policies that impact citizens.

One of the key issues Hon. Ali faults CS Macharia for is the continued transportation of consignments from the Mombasa Port to the Naivasha Inland Container Depot via the SGR, despite public opinion and the resulting job losses.

Additionally, Hon. Ali alleges that CS Macharia oversaw the dissipation of public funds without accountability during his tenure in various ministries, including the MOH, which lost close to KES 5.2 billion.
