On June 16, 2020, Max Verstappen made headlines in the Formula 1 world by ordering a Ferrari Monza SP2 worth approximately Sh192mn (1.6 million Euros). The limited-edition car, also owned by TV chef Gordon Ramsay and footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, boasts a 6.5-litre V12 engine producing 850 horsepower, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and reaching a top speed of over 300 kilometres per hour.

However, Verstappen's relationship with Ferrari has been far from smooth. In 2019, he accused the Scuderia of cheating during the United States Grand Prix, claiming they had an illegal power unit. Ferrari responded by denying the allegations, and an FIA investigation resulted in a 'private agreement' being reached, which Verstappen's Red Bull team were not pleased about.

Despite the tension between Verstappen and Ferrari, his purchase of the Ferrari Monza SP2 suggests that he still has a soft spot for the Italian team. Whether this is a genuine expression of affection or a calculated business move remains to be seen.
