June 16, 2020 - Kenya's COVID-19 cases have reached 3,860, with men accounting for 88 of the 133 new infections reported in the last 24 hours.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe expressed concern over the high rate of transmission among men, urging them to emulate women's cautious approach to the pandemic.

According to Kagwe, the disparity in infection rates between men and women can be attributed to varying behavior, with women exhibiting a more careful and consistent approach to the disease.

"We need to understand why so many men are getting this virus. If we were able to drop the number of men to the level of number of women, you can see we'd drop the numbers substantially," Kagwe said.

He added, "And I think it is to do with behavior. Women essentially are exhibiting a more careful and consistent approach to this disease than men. We as men must adopt the same attitude."

Out of the 133 new cases, Nairobi recorded 86, Mombasa 27, Kiambu 7, and Busia 5. Murang'a, Kilifi, Kajiado, Kilifi, and Migori recorded two cases each, while Machakos and Murang'a had one case each.

CS Kagwe also announced that 40 more patients had been discharged after recovering from the disease, bringing the number of recoveries to 1,326. One more patient has succumbed to COVID-19, raising the number of fatalities to 105.

So far, the country has tested 121,956 samples.
