On June 16, 2020, Kenya's Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) announced an extension of operating hours for restaurants in the country.
The decision was reached after discussions between restaurant owners and the National Emergency Response Committee (NERC) on COVID-19.
According to the CS, the extended hours will allow restaurant workers, many of whom are housed by their employers, to complete their shifts before the curfew.
CS Kagwe commended the majority of restaurants for following COVID-19 protocols, but emphasized that owners must continue to adhere to guidelines to avoid license revocation.
Operators are required to maintain protocols such as temperature screening, hand-washing stations, and social distancing measures.
