COVID-19 Cases in Kenya Rise to 3,860 ¶
On June 16, 2020, the Ministry of Health announced that the number of COVID-19 cases in Kenya had jumped to 3,860 after 133 more people tested positive for the disease.
According to the Ministry of Health, the new cases were identified after testing of 3,255 samples. The breakdown of the new cases by county was as follows: Nairobi (86), Mombasa (27), Kiambu (7), Busia (5), Murang'a (2), Kilifi (2), Kajiado (2), and Migori (2).
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that the government had extended the operating time of hotels and restaurants to 7:30 pm due to continued adherence to COVID-19 containment measures by citizens.
However, Kagwe warned that the Health Ministry would withdraw licenses of any hotel that would be found flouting the regulations aimed at warding off the viral disease.
Acting Director, Medical Services Preventive and Promotive Health Pacifica Onyancha urged lactating mothers diagnosed with COVID-19 to continue breastfeeding their children but with their masks on and minimal contact.
Onyancha emphasized that the mothers should ensure they put on masks and have minimal contact with the child when the child is not breastfeeding to prevent the risk of infection.
