On June 4, 2020, a violent altercation erupted between Damaris Nthoki Singe and her husband Shadrack Mutunga Makau at their rented house in Huruma estate, Mathare Sub County, Nairobi.

The couple, who were at home with their two-year-old child, were involved in a heated argument after Makau discovered that Sh200 was missing from his pockets.

According to reports, Makau became enraged and confronted his wife, who denied taking the money. The situation escalated, and Makau allegedly bit his wife on the left eye.

As the fight continued, Singe grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Makau twice on the back. Makau was rushed to a city hospital, where he was admitted for several days.

He has since been discharged but continues to visit the hospital daily for dressing of his wounds.

On June 16, 2020, Singe appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Angelo Kithinji of the Makadara Law Courts, where she denied the charges of causing grievous bodily harm.

Initially, Singe was unable to raise the Sh30,000 cash bail required for her release, and she was held at Huruma Police Station. However, she was later granted a cash bail of Sh50,000, with the hearing of the case set to begin on August 20, 2020.
