June 16, 2020 - Nairobi, Kenya - The COVID-19 pandemic in Kenya has seen a glimmer of hope as 40 more patients were discharged on Tuesday, bringing the total recoveries to 1,326.
According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health, the number of recoveries has seen a significant increase, while the number of fatalities has risen to 105 after one more patient succumbed.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe noted that 50% of the fatalities were people with underlying conditions such as diabetes.
Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus cases in the country has risen to 3,860 after 133 people tested positive out of 3,255 samples tested since Monday.
The new cases were detected in various parts of the country, with 90 cases in Nairobi, 27 in Mombasa, 5 in Busia, 2 in Kilifi, 7 in Kiambu, and 2 in Kajiado.
A 13-year-old child and a 90-year-old are among the new infections in the country.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to announce new measures on July 6 to contain the spread of the virus, after receiving reports from various government agencies and stakeholders.
