On June 16, 2020, Kenya's Health Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe, announced 133 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of positive cases to 3,860.
As of the announcement, a total of 121,956 samples had been tested for the virus.
The new cases were distributed across various regions, with Nairobi leading the pack at 86 cases. Westlands recorded 13 cases, Embakasi 10, Makadara nine, Lang'ata eight, Embakasi-East and South five each, and Starehe four.
Additionally, 27 people in Mombasa tested positive for the virus, with 16 cases in Mvita, six in Kisauni, and three in Nyali.
CS Kagwe also took the opportunity to commemorate the International Day of the African Child, emphasizing the importance of nutrition in children and its role in fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Kagwe, 40 patients had been discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,326. Unfortunately, one patient had succumbed to the disease, increasing the total number of fatalities to 105.
