Bayern Munich is on the cusp of being crowned German champions, but their celebrations will be subdued due to COVID-19 restrictions.

According to the German Football League (DFL), the champion and relegated teams will not be officially declared until the last round of matches, in case the league is interrupted again by the pandemic.

As a result, the 'Schale' or winners' trophy will not be awarded until the end of the season, on June 27, when Bayern play Wolfsburg.

Any celebrations will be limited to 100 people in the 'interior zone', which includes the pitch and substitutes' bench, but no supporters or family members will be present.

The traditional beer shower, a Bayern Munich tradition, is also banned under current league regulations.

Bayern coach Hansi Flick expressed his disappointment at the cancellation of the beer shower, saying, 'I would be happy if it didn’t take place this year.'

The customary trophy presentation in front of supporters at the city's town hall has been cancelled in advance, with Munich mayor Dieter Reiter stating, 'Respecting this tradition is unfortunately unthinkable' this year.

However, the team and staff members will be able to celebrate together, having been regularly tested for the virus and working in contact with each other for weeks.
