On Monday, June 15, 2020, Narc Party National Chairman Miltonic Kitute petitioned President Uhuru Kenyatta to dissolve Kitui County government due to irreconcilable differences between the county assembly and the Executive.
The move is aimed at diverting attention from ongoing efforts in the assembly to impeach Governor Charity Ngilu, with a collection of signatures to recall all the MCAs for fresh elections.
The two arms of government have been at loggerheads, leading to a delay in the passage of the county government's bills, much to the chagrin of Ms. Ngilu, who has accused Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka of undermining her administration through the majority Wiper MCAs in the assembly.
Kitute accused the members of the majority wing in the assembly of playing politics with serious matters affecting the county, thereby derailing the actualization of Ngilu's development agenda.
"It is clear that the Wiper Party is playing dirty politics using the assembly to punish the people of this county," he said, adding that the dissolution of the county government and recalling of the MCAs will provide fresh impetus for new leadership that is development-oriented.
The Narc chairperson lamented that no meaningful development can be achieved due to the incessant squabbles between the legislature and the executive, including delaying the passage of the supplementary budget.
"I challenge the Wiper leader to tame his foot soldiers in the House with a view to putting aside their political affiliations and focus on implementing Governor Ngilu's five-pillar developmental agenda. If not, we are ready to go to the polls," he said.
