Manchester United's Angel Gomes has made headlines after a video surfaced of him attending T.B. Joshua's Synagogue Church of All Nations in Nigeria in 2016.
According to the video, Gomes was testifying about his fitness struggles, including a hip injury and an ankle problem, which had affected his development at the club.
However, Gomes has since clarified that he visited the prophet with the advice of his parents, stating that he was 'just practicing his faith' at the time.
"I am from a Christian family at the time my mum was a fan of the pastor, and she really wanted me to go. I was going through some issues," Gomes said in a series of tweets.
While acknowledging that his actions may seem 'crazy' from the outside, Gomes emphasized that he was simply following his parents' guidance and practicing his faith.
As a result of his visit, Gomes has been the subject of much speculation, with many questioning his judgment. However, the midfielder has since taken to social media to clear the air, stating that he was young and trusted his parents' advice at the time.
With his future at Manchester United uncertain, Gomes is reportedly keen to extend his stay at the club, having made over 10 appearances for the senior team.
