On June 16, 2020, Microsoft launched the Game of Learners (GOL) programme, a virtual multi-week hackathon developed by the Africa Development Centre, to spur innovation among university students across Kenya.

Developed by Microsoft's Africa Development Centre, the GOL programme is a 5-week hackathon that will be executed by Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors.

Targeting undergraduate students, the programme aims to give students experiential skills to help them hone their leadership skills through 3-minute pitch videos, code repositories, and shippable products.

University students who participate will learn technical skills in a fun competition while building awareness among their peers. The competition was initially planned to be held on campus but was shifted to a virtual format due to the pandemic.

Winners of the competition will receive 1-year Azure credits, 1-year LinkedIn Learning vouchers, and a digital certificate and badge for winning.

Additionally, the programme will provide one-on-one mentorship from preferred professionals, allowing students to interact and engage with each other locally and globally.

Thirteen volunteers from Microsoft will mentor the students throughout the 5-week engagement and judge each team's final project submission.
