On May 16, 2020, Nairobi lawyer Soyinka Lempaa was arrested by police along the Thika Superhighway while driving to his farm in Kiahuria, accompanied by his brother and cousin.
According to the Kenya Human Rights Commissioner, Kamanda Mucheke, the initial charges against Lempaa - resisting arrest, obstruction, and disobeying executive orders - have been changed.
On Monday, a charge sheet was produced in court, stating that Lempaa resisted arrest at Bob Haris road block in Juja Sub-county, Kiambu County, on May 16, 2020.
Initially, Lempaa was granted a Sh10,000 cash bail, but the court has now put the case on hold until June 29, 2020, citing the need for the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) to review the charges.
