On June 16, 2020, Sanofi announced the winners of its AfricaTech competition, which was held online due to the cancellation of the 2020 VivaTech Global Challenge in Paris, France.

Kenya's MamaPrime and Uganda's Teheca were among the five startups that emerged victorious, beating out 11 other finalists who pitched their ideas to the competition.

The AfricaTech competition received a total of 268 applications from 34 countries across the continent, with the five winners selected for their innovative solutions to pressing healthcare challenges.

The winners included MamaPrime, a health fintech company that enables mothers to prepay for prenatal and postnatal care, and Teheca, which connects new and expectant mothers to qualified nurses for at-home postnatal checkups.

As part of their win, MamaPrime and Teheca will receive partnership opportunities with Sanofi in the realization of their projects and innovations in their local markets.
