Overcoming Adversity: The Story of DJ Soxxy's Son ¶
June 16, 2020, will be a day that DJ Soxxy and his wife, Anne Waichigo, will never forget. It was the day their son, Ethan Kamau, was born, but his journey to life was far from easy.
After a long and grueling nine months, the couple's joy was short-lived as their son's lungs failed to pick up, leaving them with the daunting prospect of losing him. Ethan was rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where he spent several days fighting for his life.
As a mother, Anne Waichigo's world was turned upside down. She recounts the emotional rollercoaster she experienced, 'I almost gave up on the life of my son, just before he looked up and assured his mom that he was born to live and fight.'
Despite the odds being against him, Ethan proved to be a fighter, and his name, which means 'Strong' in Hebrew, became a testament to his resilience. His mother, Anne, took to social media to celebrate his life, saying, 'I have this little boy who stole my heart and he calls me mama... We named him @ethan_kamau Ethan means Strong, firm in hebrew. When Ethan was born, his lungs did not pick up and we thought we would lose him, he stayed in the NICU for a few days. And just like his name, he was strong to fight for his little life.'
As a mother, Anne's promise to her son is one that many can relate to: 'I can’t promise to fix all your problems but I can promise that you won’t have to face them alone.'
