As Kenya gears up to reopen its economy, the Trade Ministry has issued a set of guidelines for businesses to operate safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Released on June 15, the guidelines are based on the Ministry of Health's directives and aim to ensure that businesses can reopen while adhering to social distancing and other containment measures.
According to Trade Cabinet Secretary Betty Maina, the guidelines were developed in consultation with various sector associations and business member associations.
"Individual businesses, companies, office premises, etc., are expected to derive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) from the guidelines for the smooth operation of their enterprises," she said.
The guidelines require businesses to maintain at least 2 meters between traders and customers, treat people with coronavirus-like symptoms humanely, and provide paid sick leave in line with Labour laws.
Employers are also urged to encourage the use of digital communication platforms to broadcast messages to staff and display up-to-date company and Ministry of Health social distancing and health guidelines within the premises.
