On June 3, 2020, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia directed a fresh head count of teachers before the implementation of the final pay raise under the 2017-2021 collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
The head count order comes after it emerged that wrong information was presented by county education directors to the TSC, leading to erroneous conversions of classroom teachers to grades reserved for institutional administrators.
Ms. Macharia instructed county directors to provide accurate information by June 30, 2020, and to critically analyze the existing data and re-confirm all institutional administrators serving in their respective counties.
According to a letter from Ms. Macharia, the teachers to undergo the recount include headteachers, their deputies, and senior teachers.
