On June 16, 2020, Pastor Charles Osasuwa, the general overseer of Rock of Ages Assembly Inc, sparked controversy with his statement that living in rental apartments is a sin Christians must avoid.

According to Pastor Osasuwa, being a tenant makes one serve two lords - God and the landlord - an act God is totally against.

He emphasized the importance of owning a home, urging people to build one once they have a job.

However, many people face financial constraints that prevent them from owning their own homes.

"The tenant is always at the mercy of the landlord," Pastor Osasuwa said. "The landlord can call the tenant anytime and he can request to use his apartment anytime. The Christian who is a tenant should work towards freeing himself from the second Lord which is the Landlord," he added.

Pastor Osasuwa suggested that Christians can build a home with basic necessities first and then add luxuries like a swimming pool later, calling that kind of house a "country home".
