Wote Stadium, located on the outskirts of Wote town in Makueni County, is set to be completed by December 2020, according to Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Amb. Amina Mohamed.

The Sh350 million stadium had stalled due to lack of resources, but with the money now available, the contractor is on-site to ensure its completion and put it into use.

“By the end of this year, we want to have ten stadia completed so that we can be able to host international games. Sports is very important since it also brings to our country foreign exchange,” said Amina.

She disputed claims that the stalling of various facilities was propelled by divisive politics, stating that the government was serving equally all regions of the country without any bias.

“The president will be here to officially open this stadium by October, and any other stadium that will not be completed then we will have up to November to have the final works done so that we can have them opened to use too,” she added.

The stadium, whose foundation stone was laid by Deputy President William Ruto on May 27, 2017, will have a hosting capacity of between 15,000 and 20,000 people once completed.
