On June 8, 2020, the Registrar of Political Parties issued a Gazette notice seeking to change Ford-Kenya party officials, but the High Court intervened to block the move.

Justice James Makau issued an order suspending the implementation of the Gazette notice, pending a hearing and determination of the case.

The court restrained the Registrar, Ann Nderitu, and her agents from implementing the notice, and also prevented them from acknowledging, sanctioning, or transacting business with suspended Secretary General David Simiyu or Wafula Wamunyinyi.

Wetangula was directed to serve the Registrar, Simiyu, and Wamunyinyi with the court order within the next two days.

According to the court, Wamunyinyi and Simiyu had illegally held a meeting on May 31, 2020, purporting to be the party's meeting, and adopted some resolutions that they sent to the Registrar.

Ford-Kenya wants to permanently stop the Registrar from adopting the resolutions, which they term as illegal.
