WWE superstar Edge, real name Adam Copeland, has suffered a serious injury during his match against Randy Orton at WWE Backlash.

According to reports, Edge sustained a torn triceps during the encounter, which could mean he is out for four to eight months.

Edge, 46, had been medically cleared to compete again last year after a nine-and-a-half-year absence from the ring due to serious neck issues.

He made a triumphant return to action at the Royal Rumble in January and went on to win a match against Orton at WrestleMania 36.

However, it seems that Edge's comeback may be short-lived, with the veteran wrestler now set for another spell on the sidelines.

The match was taped several weeks ago, and there had been an attempt to keep the injury quiet until it could be worked into company storylines.

Edge and Orton put on a classic clash at WWE Backlash, with the two legendary stars trading iconic moves and putting on a grappling clinic.

However, it was Orton who stood tall at the end of the pay-per-view, triumphing with a trademark RKO to leave Edge lying on the canvas.
