Published on June 15, 2020, Nairobi — The government has issued a stern warning to individuals attempting to sneak out of lockdown areas in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Mandera.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has asked Kenyans to report such individuals through the Nyumba Kumi administrative structures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"Utilize this governance structure to ensure that there are no strangers coming to your villages and homes because this is the main way the virus is transmitted," Kagwe said during the daily COVID-19 briefing from Nyandarua.

Kenya has implemented tough restrictions since March, including a night curfew from 9pm to 4am, closure of bars, and limited operating hours for restaurants.

As of June 15, 2020, the country had recorded 3,727 cases of COVID-19, with 104 fatalities.

9 counties out of the 47 in Kenya have yet to report cases of coronavirus.
