On June 15, 2020, the Chinese Embassy in Kenya denied reports that its nationals were planning to leave the country in large numbers due to COVID-19 fears.

The reports, published in a local newspaper, claimed that around 400 Chinese nationals had obtained a court order to enable them to leave the country on June 16, citing a lack of trust in the Kenyan health system to manage the virus.

However, the Embassy Spokesperson, Xueqing Huang, dismissed the reports as 'false' and stated that no such plans were in place.

She also clarified that the Ambassador, Wu Peng, was set to leave the country, but it was a normal transfer and not related to the reported group.

Ms. Huang expressed confidence in the Kenyan health system and praised the country's efforts in fighting COVID-19, stating that China and Kenya maintained 'sound cooperation and mutual assistance' in the fight against the virus.
