June 15, 2020 - Nairobi, Kenya. The COVID-19 pandemic has reached the State House, with four officials testing positive for the virus.
State House Spokeswoman Kanze Dena confirmed the development, stating that the four officials are undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital in Kiambu County.
“State House would like to inform Kenyans that His Excellency the President and the First Family are safe and free from COVID-19,” she said in a statement.
The officials were among those who underwent targeted mass testing on June 11. Public health officials have begun monitoring their families and close contacts, in line with Ministry of Health regulations.
Extra access protocols have been rolled out for State House staff residing outside the compound and visitors, to contain the spread of the virus.
State House has been hosting large gatherings in recent days, including Parliamentary Group meetings for the Jubilee Party, where over 100 leaders were hosted.
As of June 15, Kenya had recorded 3,727 infections and 104 deaths, according to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.
