Kenya Airways, the country's flagship carrier, has been grounded for over four months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the airline is now planning to resume operations in September, with passenger flights expected to start at low capacity.

The decision to resume operations comes as the airline assesses the impact of the pandemic on its revenue flow, which has been severely affected since the order to halt flights in early 2020.

According to the airline's management, there is a reasonable expectation that flights could resume in the third quarter of the year, with business expected to start at very low capacity and gradually ramp up as travel bans are lifted and passenger confidence returns.

The airline's team is already engaging with relevant players to effect a comeback, with the object of re-birthing income generation and covering the financial void caused by the pandemic.

Kenya Airways has been running on cargo flights, missing out on the target to secure a bailout from the national treasury.
