On June 15, 2020, Kenya's Health Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe, announced 133 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 3,727.
The new cases were from a sample pool of 3,365 people tested in the last 24 hours, out of a total of 180,701 tests conducted to date.
During a tour of Nyandarua's health facilities, Kagwe commended the county for remaining COVID-19 free, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any unwanted visitors to their Chiefs or Nyumba-Kumi representatives.
He emphasized the importance of utilizing the governance structure to prevent the spread of the virus, which is mainly transmitted through strangers.
CS Kagwe also raised concerns about the level of malnutrition among children, citing that only 22% of children aged 6-23 months consume a minimum acceptable diet, while 61% are exclusively breastfed.
He stressed the need for enhanced nutrition counselling at the household level, highlighting the importance of a healthy diet in promoting physical, mental growth, and development, as well as building and repairing tissues and cells damaged by infections and injuries.
