On June 15, 2020, former Football Kenya Federation Vice-President Sammy Tiyoi Shollei announced his intention to run for the federation's presidency.

Shollei, a seasoned footballer who played for Tusker FC, Rivatex, and Raymonds FC, expressed his desire to succeed current president Nick Mwendwa, citing a need to refocus on grassroots football.

Shollei's entry into the presidential race adds to the growing list of contenders, which includes Herbert Mwachiro, Nicholas Musonye, Lordvick Aduda, and Moses Akaranga.

Shollei's football career spanned over two decades, during which he earned 20 national caps under Coach Mohammed Kheri in 1991.

The Football Kenya Federation elections, currently embroiled in court cases, are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
