Kenya's e-commerce giant, Jumia, has expanded its logistics services to external clients, marking a significant shift in the company's business strategy.

According to Jumia Kenya CEO, Sam Chappatte, the move is aimed at providing a better quality of service at a lower cost to businesses across the country, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With its extensive logistics network, Jumia is now offering next day delivery to all major cities, same-day delivery in Nairobi, and cash on delivery services to external clients.

Chappatte explained that the company's logistics network is a collaboration of dozens of logistics entrepreneurs across the country, including big players like POSTA and Wells Fargo, and many small players.

Through this network, Jumia has access to thousands of bikes, vans, and hundreds of pickup stations, which will drive more volume through the network and benefit its partners.

The service will cater for business-to-customer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) type deliveries, with customers having the option of dropping off their parcels at Jumia drop-off centers in Nairobi or having the company collect from their locations.

As part of the launch, new clients will benefit from a free first 10 deliveries within Nairobi to test the service during Jumia's 8th anniversary-themed event, 'Jumia na Jamii, Stronger Together', which is slated to hold from June 22 till July 5, 2020.
