June 15, 2020 - The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the already dire situation for journalists in Kenya, with a significant rise in reported cases of violations and intimidation.
According to the Media Council of Kenya, there have been 46 cases of journalists' violations between January and June 2020, with 16 cases reported during the pandemic.
Speaking at a webinar during the Dissemination Forum on Safety and Protection of Journalists, Media Council of Kenya Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Programmes Manager Victor Bwire emphasized the need to address the issue of journalists being falsely accused of crimes.
