June 15, 2020 - In a move that signals a significant shift in its strategy, DStv, a leading African television network, has announced that it will add Netflix and Amazon Prime Video to its platforms.

The partnership, which was included in MultiChoice's results presentation on its website, marks a change in approach for the company, which has been facing increasing competition from streaming services and internet providers.

According to Philip Wahome, Corporate Affairs Manager at MultiChoice, the company will make an official announcement providing more detail on the partnership in the coming weeks.

Netflix, which has been available in Africa since January 2016, has been gaining market share in the region, despite the challenges posed by bandwidth costs and speeds.

MultiChoice has acknowledged that it has been losing subscribers to over-the-top service providers like Netflix, and has previously pushed for increased regulation of the streaming service.

However, in a presentation on Thursday, MultiChoice CEO Calvo Mawela emphasized the need for the company to adapt to the changing market and position itself as a one-stop-shop for streaming services.
