On June 15, 2020, Kenya Wine Agencies Limited (KWAL) made a significant contribution to the fight against COVID-19 by donating Ksh. 10 million to the Kenya COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund.

The donation, presented at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) by KWAL's Managing Director, Lina Githuka, and Legal Director, Doris Thangei, will support welfare interventions, including providing food and essential commodities to vulnerable communities affected by the pandemic.

The funds will also be utilized for the purchase of medical supplies and provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), crucial in containing the spread of the virus.

With the country recording increased confirmed COVID-19 cases, the donation comes as a major boost to the Fund, which is mobilizing resources for emergency response towards containing the spread, effects, and impact of COVID-19.

According to Lina Githuka, KWAL's Managing Director, “COVID-19 is more than a health crisis, it is essentially an economic crisis. With schools closed, job disruptions, loss of livelihoods, and health concerns, the support is necessary to cushion vulnerable communities from the adverse effects of the pandemic and support national efforts to stop its spread”.

The Kenya COVID-19 Fund was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta on March 30, 2020, and commissioned on April 2, 2020. Its principal object is to mobilize resources for an emergency response towards containing the spread, effects, and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A detailed list of all contributions is available on the Fund’s website www.kenyacovidfund.co.ke.
