On June 15, 2020, Gor Mahia's Secretary General Ronald Ngala implemented a new policy requiring all fans to renew their membership by paying a non-refundable annual registration fee of Sh1,200.

As a result, unregistered fans, including K'Ogalo's number one fan Jaro Soja, were removed from the club's WhatsApp group.

Jaro Soja, a well-known Gor Mahia fan, had recently pledged to remit ten percent of his earnings from selling face masks branded with the club's logo to the Gor Mahia Augmentin Fund, a fans-driven initiative aimed at helping the club offset its bills.

The club management has stated that it targets massive registration of fans across the country to boost the club's revenue streams.

Only registered Gor Mahia members are allowed to participate in club elections and receive financial information about the club's affairs.

Some fans who were removed from the WhatsApp group have expressed dissatisfaction with Ngala's decision, claiming that they were not adequately briefed before the action was taken.
