On June 11, 2020, Somalia's Ministry of Health announced that the country had reached 2,500 coronavirus cases.
According to Dr. Fawzia Abikar Nur, the country's Ministry of Health, 61 new positive cases were reported in the last 48 hours, with 25 cases from Somaliland, eight from Galgaduud, five from Puntland, and two from Jubbaland.
Dr. Nur also noted that 13 of the cases were from Banadir region, and that 532 infected individuals had recovered from the virus.
Meanwhile, the South West State of Somalia (SWSS) announced plans to reopen schools by next month, with SWSS President Abdiaziz Mohamed Laftagaren stating that schools had been closed since April 19.
Laftagaren added that his government was working closely with stakeholders to reduce the effects of coronavirus and reopen educational centers.
Additionally, the Puntland State indicated plans to reopen Quran (Madrasa) schools in Northeastern Somalia.
