Kenyan music has a rich history, and one artist who has played a significant role in shaping it is Nonini. Born Hubert Mbuku Nakitare, Nonini rose to fame with his hit single 'Manzi wa Nairobi' in the early 2000s.
His lyrics often sparked controversy among the older generation, but the youth loved him for his energetic and catchy tunes. Nonini's success led him to found P-Unit, a record label that produced several hit songs and earned him a Kisima Award in 2007.
That same year, Nonini was named one of the 100 most influential Kenyans by the Standard, a testament to his impact on the music industry. Beyond his music, Nonini has been giving back to society through various causes, including a recent initiative to raise funds for sanitary towels for women in Mathare during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through his efforts, Nonini has demonstrated his commitment to using his platform for good. We celebrate his contributions to Kenyan music and his philanthropic work.
