As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread in Kenya, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has emphasized the importance of wearing face masks in public places. Speaking in Nyeri during a tour of Othaya Level Six Hospital on June 14, 2020, Kagwe urged Kenyans to adopt this simple yet effective measure to prevent the spread of the virus.
“As a country, we have reached a state where it is critical in observing set down regulations,” Kagwe said. “I have said before that you should view the person next to you as positive now I say if you find someone without a mask please run away.”
According to Kagwe, the number of positive cases in the country had risen to 3,594 by June 14, 2020, with 103 deaths. He also warned against the habit of touching vegetables and fruits in the market before buying them, citing the risk of transmission.
Kenya has implemented various regulations to combat the spread of COVID-19, including a night curfew and lockdowns in major cities. President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to review these regulations on July 6, 2020.
