As Covid-19 cases continue to rise across the African continent, 43 countries have taken drastic measures to contain the spread of the virus by closing their borders.
According to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the death toll from the pandemic has reached 6,040, while some 102,846 people have recovered.
The northern African region is the most affected area, with countries such as South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, Djibouti, Nigeria, and Algeria experiencing a significant surge in cases and deaths.
Some countries have reported new records for their daily increases in Covid-19 infections, with Egypt registering 1,677 new cases and Ethiopia reporting 268 new cases.
South Africa, the worst-hit country, has registered a total of 65,736 cases and 1,423 deaths.
Additionally, 35 countries have activated night-time curfews, while seven countries have imposed international air traffic closures and two countries have imposed travel restrictions.
