Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru has made a significant shift in her political stance, throwing her weight behind President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga's Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Ms Waruguru, a key ally of Deputy President William Ruto, met with Mr Odinga at his Capitol Hill offices in Nairobi last week to discuss critical national issues, including constitutional reforms and national unity.
During the meeting, Ms Waruguru expressed her support for the BBI, saying she had resorted to working with the government. She stated, 'I support the government of the day.'
Ms Waruguru's move has elicited mixed reactions from the public, with some welcoming her decision and others criticizing her for abandoning her former ally, Deputy President Ruto.
Ms Waruguru, who is also a member of the National Assembly's Members Services and Facilities Committee, has been one of Dr Ruto's key allies who have been kicked out of critical House leadership positions.
However, she remains optimistic about her decision, saying, 'I know what I am doing, the future is in government.'
Ms Waruguru's shift in support comes as Laikipia County Assembly's Jubilee Party leadership has vowed to rally behind President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga.
