On Saturday afternoon, four herders were brutally killed by suspected bandits in Kukuto area, Marsabit Central, Marsabit County, in a shocking incident that has left local residents reeling.

According to Marsabit Central sub-county police commander Benjamin Mwanthi, the attack occurred near Jaica wells at around 2pm, with the victims dying instantly.

Mr. Mwanthi confirmed that the attackers escaped soon after committing the crime, prompting a manhunt that will be sustained until the culprits are brought to book.

“Serious investigations into the incident, including pursuit of the suspects, have started in earnest, so that they can face the full force of the law,” the commander said.

This incident brings the number of casualties from banditry attacks involving the use of illicit guns in Marsabit County to 24 in the last week, including four youths among them three university students in Songa-Badassa area and about 10 in Badan-Rero.

It is worth noting that this incident comes barely seven months after 13 people, including three police officers, were shot dead in the same area against a background of an illegal firearm mop-up exercise by the government.
