On June 14, 2020, a water tank in Wanyororo B, Bahati, Nakuru County burst less than a month after its construction, causing destruction and fear among residents.

The 100,000-cubic liter tank, which was to be officially commissioned next week, collapsed on a Sunday morning at around 5 am, destroying nearby crops and homes.

The project, which cost Sh 1.7 million, was meant to alleviate perennial water shortages in the area.

Locals have accused Kandutura Limited, the company that built the tank, of shoddy workmanship, citing the lack of a pillar as a contributing factor to the collapse.

One of the locals, Mary Wairimu, described the incident as terrifying, saying that even though no life was lost, it should be a wake-up call for project inspectors.

Bahati MCA John Ndonyo has demanded action against contractors accused of shoddy workmanship, following this incident and a recent pit latrine collapse in Subukia sub-county.
