On June 12, 2020, Emurua-Dikir MP Johana Ng'eno lost his herd of 22 pedigree Friesian heifers at his Kisiara farm in his constituency after feeding on poisonous supplements.
The legislator has vowed to take legal action against the company and supplier of the poisonous livestock feeds, citing that they sold him uncertified feeds and feeds they knew to be poisonous.
Ng'eno revealed that the cows died within a record 10 minutes after consuming less than 100 grams of the feeds, indicating that the feeds were highly poisonous.
He regretted that the 10 bags of two kilograms of the supplement caused him over Sh2.5 million following the death of his young stock.
Ng'eno also expressed concern that the packaged feeds did not have the mark of quality from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs), putting many farmers at risk.
He has advised fellow farmers to buy their livestock feeds from established and known local suppliers to avoid incurring losses like the one he is experiencing.
