June 14, 2020, marked the premiere of Maisha Magic Plus's drama series 'Kina', a ruthless battle for survival between the wealthy and powerful, and the downtrodden who toil for the rich but reap nothing from their hard work.
At the top of the social hierarchy are the Tandalas, led by Nana Tandala (Sanaipei), a powerful businesswoman who will stop at nothing to protect her empire.
Her husband, Fred Tandala (played by Gathu), is the Deputy Inspector General of Police, but he is clueless about his wife's dealings.
Sanaipei and Gathu's onscreen chemistry is undeniable, and they attribute it to their long-standing friendship, which dates back to when Sanaipei was still in the music group Sema.
‘We’ve known each other since I got into showbiz at the age of 19,’ Sanaipei says, adding that this gives them an added advantage to playing a married couple.
However, Sanaipei notes that even if Gathu was not her friend, she believes that this is work, and they have to completely forget how they feel about each other personally and get into their roles.
Gathu shares Sanaipei's sentiments, saying that being goofy and lovey-dovey in 'Kina' is not a problem for him.
‘We can go as far as is needed. I think we are just both lucky that it was the two of us and not strangers,’ he says. ‘It’s funny because that’s just how goofy I am with my wife as well.’
