On June 14, 2020, a shocking incident unfolded at the Central Police Station in Nakuru, where a prime suspect in a series of robberies, popularly known as Kidum, was found dead.

According to reports, Kidum allegedly took his own life by hanging himself using his own belt, despite the standard police practice of taking belts away from suspects in custody.

Kidum was wanted in connection to a recent break-in at a liquor store at Railways, Nakuru, where stock worth at least Sh50,000 was stolen.

However, street families in Nakuru disputed the narrative of his death, suspecting that he was possibly murdered. They alleged that Kidum was working with plainclothed police officers involved in a motorcycle-theft syndicate.

The street families claimed that Kidum provided the cartel with buyers and transported the stolen motorcycles to pick up points in Salgaa.

As news of his death spread, street families took to the streets to demonstrate, protesting what they believed was a cover-up by the police.
