Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga has denied holding a meeting with Anne Waiguru, the impeached governor of Kirinyaga, to help her save her job.

According to a report published in the Daily Nation on June 14, 2020, Waiguru had met with Odinga at his home in Karen to seek his intervention as her fate as governor remained uncertain.

Odinga has now come out to debunk the information, stating that he did not hold any meeting with Waiguru or other governors, including Dr. James Nyoro of Kiambu and Mutahi Kahiga of Nyeri.

He accused the publication of lazy journalism, saying that the matters surrounding Waiguru's impeachment required objective and deep reporting based on verifiable facts.

Odinga's statement read: 'I am deeply concerned about the false story published in the Sunday Nation today, 14th June 2020, that I held a meeting with the recently impeached Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru in a bid to save her career.'

He also denied meeting with the other governors, saying: 'No such meeting with Ms. Waiguru or the other governors, James Nyoro of Kiambu and Mutahi Kahiga of Nyeri took place as reported in the Sunday Nation.'
