Suspected Al-Shabaab Militants Kill Police Reservist in Mandera

On June 14, 2020, a police reservist in Mandera County lost his life in an attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Lafey area.

According to reports, the militants targeted a communication mast in the area, sparking an exchange of fire with the officer.

Deputy County Commander John Marete confirmed the incident, stating that the killers were targeting the communication mast.

Hours before the attack, senior regional security officers were involved in a plane crash in Meru while heading to the area.

Separately, four people were killed on June 13, 2020, in Kokuto, Sagante-Jaldesa Ward in Marsabit Central during an attack by unknown gunmen.

Marsabit Central Sub-County Commander Benjamin Mwanthi confirmed the incident, stating that the four were killed while taking livestock to a water point.

"We lost four more herders in Kokuto area in the hands of cruel gunmen as they were headed to a watering point with their animals," said Mr. Mwanthi.
