June 14, 2020 - Nairobi, Kenya. The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced the resumption of motor vehicle inspection services across the country, following a temporary suspension in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As of June 13, 3,457 people had been infected with the virus, and 100 had lost their lives. To mitigate the risk of transmission, NTSA has implemented various measures, including social distancing, hygiene practices, and provision of personal protective equipment for those involved in the inspection process.
According to NTSA Director-General George Njao, all motor vehicles will undergo cleaning before accessing the inspection centers. The authority has already undertaken phase one of the inspection process, targeting taxis, pickup trucks, and vans, and phase two, which focuses on Public Service Vehicles and heavy commercial vehicles, is currently underway.
NTSA has also adjusted the expiration dates of bookings that were set to expire on May 30, 2020, to July 31, 2020, to support customers and prevent further inconvenience. Motor vehicle owners are urged to book their inspections through their Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) accounts.
The authority has assured that the verification and approval of online service applications will not be affected, and customers are advised to verify the status of their applications within their individual TIMS accounts.
