On June 13, 2020, the Kenya Covid-19 Emergency Fund received a significant boost with donations exceeding 2.5 billion shillings from different organizations.
The fund's chairperson, Jane Karuku, commended Kenyans for pooling their resources to help the government combat the pandemic.
Donations came from organizations such as Kenya Re, Isuzu, Office of the Auditor-General, Institute of Human Resource Management, and Kenya Wines Agencies Limited.
According to Rita Kavashe, CEO of Isuzu, the company's 10 million shilling contribution aimed to assist people living in informal settlements, who face numerous challenges, particularly accessing clean water.
The funds will be used to purchase personal protective equipment (PPEs) and cushion vulnerable members of society from the pandemic's adverse effects.
The Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund board, constituted by President Uhuru Kenyatta, oversees the fund's operations. The board's principal objective is to mobilize resources for an emergency response to contain the spread, effects, and impact of the pandemic.
